Frequently Asked Questions

Getting Started

At what point should I hire an interior designer?

The earlier, the better. If we’re involved at the start of a construction or renovation, we can anticipate needs, coordinate with your builder/architect, and guide decisions that affect budget, schedule, and the final look and feel.
Already finished construction and just need furnishings or finishing touches? We love helping you cross the finish line with furniture, lighting, art, and styling.

What should I know before we begin?

Review our simple Design Process and think about your goals, must-haves, wish list, timeline, and investment range. Gather a few inspiration images—then we’ll take it from there.

.What does “Full Service Interior Design” mean?

Start-to-finish support for new construction, large-scale renovations, or multi-room projects—including space planning, selections, documentation, purchasing, project coordination, furnishings, window treatments, rugs, art, and accessories. You approve big decisions; our licensed team handles the details.

What should I know before getting started?

We recommend reviewing Our Design Process to understand how we work and what to expect.
Gather inspiration images, a list of priorities, and an idea of your timeline and budget — we’ll help refine the rest.

Investment, Fees & Billing

How much does it cost to hire an interior designer?

Our fees are based on data from dozens of past projects and are customized to your specific scope of work. After your initial consultation, we provide a detailed proposal and letter of agreement outlining your project’s scope, timeline, and fees.

We believe in transparency — and our pricing reflects our experience, efficiency, and proven systems that make your design process enjoyable and successful.

Do you have a waiting list? When can I begin my project?

Why do you require a retainer?

A retainer reserves your place on our schedule and ensures we can dedicate the right resources to your project. For projects longer than ~3 months (commonly new construction), we may use an evergreen retainer to keep work moving smoothly during intensive phases. Invoices are due upon receipt; if payment is late, we may need to pause and reschedule to be fair to all clients in the queue.

Ordering, Procurement & Pricing

Can I order items myself?

Yes, but. Our best projects are ones where we provide white-glove procurement, ordering through Shine includes vendor coordination, tracking, problem-solving with manufacturer reps, and managing. If you choose a limited service package, we can create a purchasing plan for you.
