Color We Love: Slumber Sloth by Sherwin-Williams

At Shine, we’re always on the lookout for colors that feel fresh and timeless—shades that quietly support a space without stealing the spotlight. One of our absolute favorites? Slumber Sloth by Sherwin-Williams (#9606). This soft, calm neutral has become a foundational color in many of our projects, most recently in a full-home transformation in Wynne, Arkansas, where it served as the base wall color throughout the entire house.

This wasn’t just a paint choice—it was a palette anchor. Our clients were returning home and wanted their space to feel welcoming, peaceful, and deeply personal. They asked us to move away from cool “millennial” grays and toward something that felt warm but not yellow, cozy but not muddy, modern but still classic. Slumber Sloth delivered all of that and more.

“We knew we didn’t want anything that felt cold or sterile,” the homeowner shared, “Slumber Sloth felt like an instant hug. Every room feels soft, calm, and livable—and people always ask us what the color is!”

Why We Love It

Slumber Sloth strikes a perfect balance:

  • Soft but not flat - It has just enough warmth to feel inviting, but it stays light and airy in both natural and artificial light.

  • Versatile and elegant - Whether it’s paired with warm wood tones, deep blues, or brushed brass, it creates a seamless flow from one space to the next.

  • Wellness-forward - As a studio centered on health and wellbeing in design, we love how this shade promotes a sense of peace and clarity.

In the Wynne project, we layered this color with natural oak floors, handwoven rugs, a curated art collection, and comfort-forward furnishings to create a home that feels effortlessly put together and emotionally restorative.

Slumber Sloth wraps this living space in warmth, allowing a vibrant floral painting and artisan tile to shine without competing for attention.

How to Style Slumber Sloth in Your Own Space

Looking to bring this hue into your home? Here are a few designer tips:

  • Mix it with texture. Pair it with nubby linens, natural wood, ceramic lighting, and stone finishes to create layers of warmth.

  • Let it flow. Use it in hallways, bedrooms, and open-concept spaces to create cohesion and calm.

  • Don’t overcomplicate the palette. Because Slumber Sloth is so grounding, it plays beautifully with whites, soft blacks, terra cotta, navy, and muted greens.

A serene primary bedroom features Slumber Sloth as a calming backdrop for charcoal accents and earthy textiles.
