Bringing the Outside In

Indoor air quality is about more than lots of windows!

We knew in the Falstone New Construction project that we would have to avoid artificial plants. While we love a good faux floral arrangement, most are created by dipping the silk or fabric into latex, and in a latex-free home, this was a major red flag item.

Combined with talking to our local nurseries and researching, we set out to find the following plants to add greenery, bring nature indoors, and provide air purifying qualities.

We also incorporated in dried and preserved arrangements, as well as lots of opportunities for fresh and cut flowers.

A few varieties we have incorporated into our work:

Spider Plant (also known as the airplane plant)

The Spider plant is among the most adaptable houseplants, and is very easy to grow. A graceful plant that makes a statement anywhere with its lovely arching leaves as a hanging plant. The Spider Plant is also known for its tremendous air purifying qualities.

Sansevieria Species

This has multiple plants in this family, but if you’re new to plant ownership or are simply looking for an easy-care houseplant, a Sansevieria is the plant for you. These hardy plants remain popular because of their adaptability to a wide range of growing conditions. They can withstand full sun and handle low light—though they will do best in indirect sunlight.

Cast Iron Plant

The cast-iron plant has earned its reputation as a hard-to-kill houseplant, along with being a beautiful outdoor foliage plant within its growing zones. This plant can survive lots of neglect and growing conditions that will kill many other plants, such as low light conditions.

ZZ plants Provide excellent air-purifying qualities - Be cautious with these and all plants to verify their safety to pets and humans.

We have 2 plant enthusiasts on staff and have great resources for landscape design, be sure to ask if it is something you would like to incorporate into your project.
